Dear Current & Future Patients & Clients,
Since I left Medical Cosmetic Center FOUR YEARS AGO, it still seems that nearly everyday I hear, “Oh, I didn’t know you were here,” or “I had no idea that you had a medical spa that does facials and massages,” or worse yet, “I never knew there was a female plastic surgeon in town.” It has been a desparately frustrating 4 years in that, no matter how much advertising I do, I feel that the word has just not been heard about how wonderful and unique this business is- how fantastically different we are from other plastic surgery practices and spas. Despite this, we have had a fantastic 4 years!
Today, January 9 is the 4th anniversary of the birth of the tri-state’s crème-de-la-crème of medical aesthetics businesses, Sholar Center for Aesthetic Surgery & Age Rejuvenation and it’s subsidiary, Green Room Spa. One day after leaving my former employer, I, along with a handful of employees, began to build my dream practice of a combination of plastic surgery, age management medicine, and high-end medical spa services previously not offered to the same degree here in the Tri-State. Now 4 years later, I want the world to know that Sholar Center and the Green Room Spa at Sholar Center offers more scientific, results-oriented aesthetic and spa treatments, the most highly-trained skincare and laser professionals around (heads and tails above everyone else), that we exclusively have Skinprint so we can actually scientifically identify your skin's unique properties to formulate products that will actually WORK. We have the area’s ONLY one-treatment fractional laser- the Pearl YSGG Fractional Laser, as well as the areas ONLY Ultherapy- the no downtime facelift. Additionally, we are the ONLY spa or medical spa run by a Board-certified plastic surgeon!
All of these things make us really unique and separate us from the fray of dayspas, as well as those claiming to be medical spas but in truth lack the proper training and education necessary to safely deliver the results our patients and clients are looking for.
We’re definitely not the usual dayspa. Bridging scientific research and advanced technologies with medical spa therapies, we are committed to providing exceptional services in a medically supervised spa. In partnership with Sholar Center for Aesthetic Surgery & Age Rejuvenation, Green Room Spa’s services are able to extend far beyond any day spa. Although you will certainly find that luxurious spa treatment to relax your body and mind, you will also be treated with physician-directed skincare products with real science behind them. Our treatment staff are all medical aestheticians with additional, rigorous training . They are all certified by the prestigious Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists, associated with the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. So why not get real benefit from your relaxing facial? No one else can offer this level of service anywhere around here.
A very exciting development that has occurred in the last several years is our exclusive partnership with Skinprint. We have teamed up with Skinprint, a worldwide leader in clinical skincare product custom formulation, to bring to the Tri-state a way to scientifically analyse an individual’s skin’s unique biochemistry and anatomy. Although we have the most highly-trained skincare staff around, they and I had to rely on the only tool we had previously available to us- our experience and our patient examination skills- to determine what skincare products our clients and patients should use. With Skinprint, however, our Certified Skinprint Analysts can also use the data collected on a patient’s skin to actually create, formulate skincare products that are truly beneficial. Further, we can use what we have learned about that person’s skin to direct them toward what specific laser procedures, chemical peels, and non-invasive facial treatments such as injectables would give them the most lasting and tangible results. Above all, we really strive to educate our clients and patients about their skin and about the measures they can take to improve it and reverse the signs of aging or control their acne, for instance.
On the Plastic Surgery and Age Management side of Sholar Center, I can offer anything from bio-identical hormone treatments for low-T (low testosterone) and hormone decline in women and men, to customized and complete Age Management Plans. This is an option or anyone who is over 35 yrs old, just doesn’t have the vigor they used to, and may be gaining weight despite working out. These patients soon find that they feel better than they have in years, which is very rewarding for us to see.
Also, my plastic surgery practice- still the majority of the business activity- is a vigorous one, as I frequently perform neck and facelifts, brow and eyelid lifts, breast surgery, tummy tucks, liposuction and other body contouring procedures, as well as many other procedures.
The great thing about housing all of this in one place is that we can achieve so much more for our patients and clients.
We often will have facelift patients, for instance, inquire about proper skincare and procedures to maintain their surgical results, and because we can provide those things, it’s really a more comprehensive experience and, therefore yields the best result for them.

Wintry winds are upon us, and before you realize it, you've got dry skin - chapped lips, itchy elbows, or red cheeks crying out for help!
Have no fear! These simple winter skincare tips can help you prevent and treat dry, chapped skin.
Winter Skin Care Tip 1: Shorten Your Showers, Forego the Hot Tub
Long, steamy showers or a soak in the hot tub may soothe a weekend warrior's sore muscles, but they're also good at dehydrating you - yes, taking moisture out instead of putting it in. That's because hot water removes the skin's natural oils more quickly than warm or cold water.
The skin care solution? Take shorter showers and baths and use warm water instead of steamy hot. Gently pat dry your skin, then use a moisturizing body oil or anti-aging lotion to put moisture back in, and keep it there. Our preferences are SkinPrint’s Luster Anti-Aging Body Lotion and Capture Body Oil. They feel WONDERFFUL!
We also recommend that you exfoliate with a Custom Sugar Body Scrub treatment from our professionals here at the Green Room Spa once a month as well to remove the dull surface skin that winter brings on.
Winter Skin Care Tip 2: Mild Soaps
Your favorite antibacterial or deodorant soap may be doing you more harm than good, stripping your skin of essential oils. That's why skincare pros recommend sticking with mild soaps, preferably unscented or lightly scented. Try Skinprint’s Body Purifier Moisturizing Body Wash.
You may want to go mild with your laundry detergent, too. Designed to remove dirt and oils, residue just may irritate sensitive, chapped skin. ALL and Tide both have detergents for sensitive skin.
Winter Skin Care Tip 3: Rehydrate & Moisturize Facial Skin
Our Oasis Hydrating Facial saturates the skin with moisture, quenching dry and flaky, dehydrated skin, replenishing suppleness, while infusing it with hyaluronic acid, growth factors, and rich antioxidants. Also remember to drink lots of water to moisturize from the inside out.
Winter Skin Care Tip 4: No More Shaving!
Shaving can leave your skin extra irritated, especially when it's already dry. So try Laser Hair Removal instead. For women, the most common areas are legs and underarms. For men, the beard and hair of the neck can be removed, with permanent reduction, so shaving doesn’t have to be part of your routine ever again, foregoing all that shaving irritation!
Winter Skin Care Tip 5: Slather on Sunscreen
Up to 80% of the sun's rays can penetrate light clouds, snow, and fog. Over time that exposure can lead to moles, wrinkles, and skin cancers.
So protect your skin: Even on cloudy or overcast days slap on that sunscreen. Reach for a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15, with UVA and UVB protection. We recommend Skinprint Ultra Sheer, so it looks great even under makeup. And don't forget to reapply often.
Winter Skin Care Tip 6: Soothing Chapped Lips
Lips don't have oil glands, so they can dry out especially easily. Give your lips the love they need with these suggestions from the American Academy of Dermatology:
Don't lick. The cycle of wetting and drying that occurs when you lick your lips quickly causes them to chap.
Cover up. On cold or windy days protect your kisser behind a scarf.
Boost moisture. Keep the air in your house moist with a humidifier.
Lip balm. Sun exposure can make chapped lips even worse, so spread on plenty of lip balm with a sunscreen of SPF 15 or more in it. We recommend Skinprint Lip Reprieve to, not only rehydrate parched lips, but to restore collagen within the lips for a plumper pouter!
These quick skin care tips should help keep your skin happy all winter long. But if you find you still have dry skin, or your skin gets worse, give us a call at 812-401-7900 at Sholar Center and the Green Room Spa @ Sholar Center!

For the first time ever, Ultherapy enables us to direct sound waves not only into the skin, but also deep under the skin to the same tissue addressed in surgical facelift. This gently heats the tissue to lift and tighten loose skin without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. Besides the visible effects of lifting and tightening, there is also an invisible result from Ultherapy- the creation of new collagen, which helps the skin restore its youthful look.
Ultherapy lifts, tightens, and tones loose skin to counteract the effects of time and gravity. One of the first effects of aging is the dropping of the eyebrows, and the eyes start to appear smaller and more hooded. Ultherapy will lift the brow, which in turn reduces the excess skin on the lids, opens up the eyes and gives a more refreshed appearance. When the skin on the cheeks and neck begins to shift downward, the result is a change in the contour of the lower face. Ultherapy can lift and tighten the sagging skin on the cheeks and neck to give a younger, slimmer look.
The beauty of Ultherapy is that it is a 60 to 90 minute procedure that uses the body’s own subtle healing response to gently, gradually restore memory to the skin and its underlying tissue. Ultherapy requires no special recuperation or preparation and typically only takes one treatment to get an excellent response. While patients do enjoy some instantaneous result following the procedure, the ultimate lifting will take place over 2-3 months, as lax collagen is rejuvenated and supplemented with new, stronger collagen. There is never a replacement for the dramatic effects of facelift surgery, but Ultherapy offers a ‘no downtime’ approach to improving lax skin in a meaningful way.
Dr. Sholar is an innovator in cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures, as well as minimally invasive procedures such as Ultherapy, Skinprint Skincare Prescriptions, Sculptra, and the Pearl Fractional Laser. Ultherapy has been featured throughout the media, such as the Rachael Ray Show, The Doctors and on Dr. Oz. The results speak for themselves, and so outstanding that Dr. Sholar herself has had this treatment! To schedule a consultation or speak with Dr. Sholar about her own results, please call us TODAY at 812-401-7900.

New Year’s Eve is always a special night, and it’s something that a lot of people prepare for well in advance. Now, it's not enough just to get your perfect dress, but great skin is just as essential. We offer you here some easy tips for youthful and glowing skin just in time for New Year’s Eve.
1. Don’t stress, drink water, and get some sleep! Stress could lead to dark circles and puffy eyes. Get a massage the day of your planned night out to relax and rejuvenate your body. Drink plenty of water to adequately hydrate tired muscles and speed muscle recovery, as well as get your skin optimally functioning. Ample sound sleep and intake of water helps detoxify and erase red, puffy eyes.
2. Hydrating Facials, like our Skinprint Oasis Facial, cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates the skin, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and crepiness. Facials are non-invasive and deliver instant results without any discomfort. (60 minutes)
3. Opt for fast-acting non-surgical treatments like Botox and dermal fillers. Fillers such as Juvederm can plump up your lips or cheeks, instantly giving you a new, refreshed for New Year party. Just be sure to have done at least a week before, so that any transient bruising will have disappeared before any party pics are taken! (15-20 minutes)
4. Microdermabrasion, a cosmetic procedure that uses a diamond-tipped wand and gentle suction for exfoliation, quickly and gently removes the outermost layer of dull, dead skin cells from the skin's surface. Your skin feels so smooth, and it will literally glow with radiance! (15-20 minutes)
5. Have your New Year’s Eve makeup applied by a professional! Need a little extra sparkle, but not sure how to do it tastefully? We can help. Have one of our expert Jane Iredale makeup artists give you just the touch you need for a beautiful complexion for your night out. Be sure to top it all off with a gorgeous New Year’s Eve hairstyle or blow-out by one of Green Room Spa’s stylists. Viola!

Questions About Ultherapy Answered Here!
Question: I have some slight sagging in my face. I’m in my 40’s and I don’t think I’m ready yet for any surgery or facelift. Would Ultherapy be a good alternative to surgery for me?
Answer: You sound like you might be an excellent candidate for Ultherapy because you are a relatively young age and just have early signs of facial aging. Ultherapy is an excellent way to create facial lift, but it is limited in patients with very significant loose muscles and skin. It is also great for people who have already had a facelift, but need to maintain it and keep the skin tight.
Question: Is Ultherapy used on the face and the body? What areas are most often treated?
Answer: Ultherapy is FDA approved for use on the face but many people, including the Sholar Center, have used Ultherapy in other areas with very exciting improvements in areas like the decollete region. We have also treated some upper arms and legs and it is even being used in the underarms for excessive sweating. Essentially, the device can theoretically be used on virtually any part of the body where we want to lay down energy under the skin without injuring the overlying skin itself. The most common areas on the face are the brow, around the eyes, the cheeks, and the neck and jawline.
Question: Are skin tightening procedures an effective alternative to the necklift or facellift? How do you know when you really just need surgery instead?
Answer: Overall, skin tightening procedures really do not replace a neck lift but Ultherapy, which is used to treat the layer of the face deep to the skin, can be very effective at improving the neck. Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to create a very small thermal injury below the skin surface. A combination of these treatments across the neck and face all create new collagen, which tightens and lifts. It is actually the only nonsurgical device ever to be given a lift indication by the FDA. It is, however, most effective in patients with early signs of aging as it is not going to be able to lift nearly as effectively as a surgical procedure. If you can lift several centimeters on each side of the jaw then you would be much better off with surgery. However, even after facelift surgery, Ultherapy is often used to add collagen into the skin and maintain the results of a facelift.
Question: How many treatments will I need? What kind of results can I expect? How long do the results last?
Answer: We have had good clinical results based upon just one or possibly two treatments. In addition, we like to schedule a follow-up visit to take photographs and track your progress. In the FDA clinical trial, nine out of ten patients had a noticeable, significant lift of the brow line. This resulted in a more open look to the eyes and a more youthful appearance overall. Patients also reported firmer, tighter, better-fitting skin in other areas of the face and neck as well. A smoother texture and more even skin color are also possible side benefits. Of course, your skin will continue its natural aging process, so you may need to schedule an annual touch-up visit to maintain your results. The Northwestern University study followed patients up to 10 months, and improvement was still noticeable!
