Did you know that on average, you can make a face look about five years younger by rejuvenating the mouth?
While many people address aging lips with fillers and sometimes implants, a “lip lift” may be more permanent and effective in creating a complete facial rejuvenation. As we age, the distance between the nose and lip gets longer, the mouth begins to turn down at the corners, the cupid’s bow gets flatter, and lips get thinner. An aged-appearing mouth makes a face look old even after a facelift. If the mouth is not attended to aestheticially, you can’t have a youthful face.
With the lip lift, the upper lip is shortened by making an incision in the crease under the nose and repositioning or excising the tissue creates a shorter, poutier mouth with less excess skin in the nose-to-lip area, and the cupid’s bow is restored. The scar is well-hidden so there aren't obvious traces that the procedure has been done.
If you think of a youthful-appearing mouth, it is one that has a shorter distance between the nose and lip, and a pouty, fuller lip with a defined cupid’s bow in the middle. Those are characteristics that may not be achieved by simply increasing the size of the lip with injections. The goal is to achieve total aesthetic harmony with the entire mouth area as well as the rest of the face. Injections, when done by an artistic, experienced injector, like Dr. Sholar, can be very beautiful, but sometimes the shape of the lip or the long nose-to-lip distance can only be adjusted with a lip lift. This is also a wonderful option for those who do not wish to have injectable products used for any reason.
Consider a lip lift as an option for mouth rejuvenation instead of, or in conjunction with, lip-enhancing injections.
